What the doctor ordered
Every day people fill out millions of prescriptions from their local pharmacy, assuming that their medications are pure and effective. Tragically, this is not always the case.
For a variety of reasons, drug supply is at a crossroads. While medical advances afford the sick and dying renewed hope through lifesaving innovations in prescription pharmaceuticals, the high cost of such medications make them the prime target in a dark underworld of counterfeit, stolen, adulterated, diluted, tainted or otherwise dangerous drugs. There is no sicker business than one that makes illicit gains from the manufacturing, distribution and sale of counterfeit drugs at the expense of innocent people that rely on these high-cost medications to sustain life.
Counterfeit-deterrent technologies
Document Security Systems’ mission is to help make the world a more secure place through the pioneering application of patented counterfeit-deterrent technologies to products, documents, packaging, labels, financial instruments and vital records in the pharmaceutical, consumer products, government, financial and security industries.
It is alarming that the same pharmaceutical companies depended on to protect health are unnecessarily distracted by the horrific practice of counterfeit drugs. Not only do these organisations have to keep up with one another in their endless pursuit of new and novel medicines, they must also keep one step ahead of the counterfeiters and organised criminal operations that prey on the confidence the pharmaceutical companies have worked for decades to establish with consumers around the world.
This is precisely where Document Security Systems’ technologies aim to assist pharmaceutical companies, government agencies and law enforcement in their tireless battle against the criminal organisations that call it their business to deal in the illicit trade of counterfeit pharmaceuticals. For nearly 30 years, Document Security Systems’ technologies have been used extensively to protect currency, vital records and negotiable instruments around the world. In fact, it is likely that when someone receives payroll or other reimbursement cheque from a large company, they handled a financial instrument protected by AuthentiGuard™ counterfeit-deterrent technologies. Document Security Systems is aggressively applying its broad portfolio of counterfeit-deterrence security features in the pharmaceutical industry to protect the vulnerable medical supply.
What do they offer?
Document Security Systems’ technologies provide specific overt, covert and forensic verification systems for the consumer, distributor, wholesaler, retailer, manufacturer or investigator to positively identify a specific product as genuine and at the same time determine which likely are fraudulent.
How does it work?
The AuthentiGuard portfolio of counterfeit deterrence technologies include: Pantograph 4000, Prism, Phantom, and VeriGlow. Each of these technologies provide extremely sophisticated print-based security that is difficult, if not impossible, for a would-be fraudster to duplicate. Of importance to both consumers and manufacturers is curtailing the ever-increasing cost of prescription medications. Acutely aware of this reality, Document Security Systems has established highly cost-effective licensing programmes that allow pharmaceutical manufacturers to deploy their broad portfolio of security technologies across their product lines with only marginal impact to the manufacturing cost.
The optically based security solutions developed by Document Security Systems fall into two main categories: overt solutions, such as AuthentiGuard Pantograph 4000 and AuthentiGuard Phantom; and covert solutions, like AuthentiGuard Prism and AuthentiGuard VeriGlow. Each of these counterfeit-deterrence technologies has the advantage of being extremely difficult to replicate, and, because they are applied using ink during the printing process, they are also economical.
Among products offering enhanced covert security, Prism stands out as an exceptionally effective verification technology for identifying the presence of a genuine product package. Prism requires the use of a simple hand-held verifier that is extremely inexpensive and can rapidly help the brand owner determine if they are looking at an original. Optionally, Document Security Systems can integrate the viewer required to authenticate the Prism technology into the over-wrap of the product packaging.
VeriGlow represents Document Security Systems’ latest innovation in advanced dual-layer authentication technology. The product relies on a two-stage authentication process. The security feature uses special inks and secret printing methods to create images or text that are only visible in the presence of a custom hand-held verification device. END
