Cool chain
With temperature variances between the cargo
facility, tarmac, cargo hold and destination station,
how can the required temperature be maintained?
Air Canada’s revamped cool chain solution
enables it to keep vaccines and other time and
temperature-sensitive shipments at the required
temperature for the full duration of their journey.
Shipments are placed in large containers using
either dry ice or electrical-based temperature-control
technologies (used for heating and cooling) and
travel in this unit from origin to destination.
Air Canada’s specially trained station attendants monitor the containers’ internal temperatures by noting the display values of the readers, which are conveniently situated outside the units’ doors, and temperatures can be adjusted as needed. High value shipments can be transported in active containers with AC Absolute. Its features include:

Air Canada was the first airline in North America to be certified by Transport Canada for the transportation of the Envirotainer RKN e1 container in 2009.
