Switzerland-based Hoffmann Neopac has unveiled SteriDrop tube, a tube and dispenser solution which is claimed to offer combination of product protection and user-friendliness.

Neopac unveils SteriDrop tube for preservative-free eyedrops

The SteriDrop tube, which is filled sealed on sterile tube filling lines, uses the firm’s patented Polyfoil technology that was earlier used for housing eye creams and eye gels.

The new tube is combined with Aptar Pharma’s ophthalmic squeeze dispenser to protect preservative-free eyedrops from microbiological contamination before, during and after initial consumer use.

SteriDrop tube can be filled with volumes up to 30ml, which easily manages three months’ supply of daily eye treatment.

The mechanical system discharges an accurately measured drop when pressure is exerted on the tube, as well as avoids the liquid from flowing back into the tube, offering better microbiological safety.

The company has provided Polyfoil tube with exemplary barrier properties to protect the product from light, air, water vapor diffusion and migration, resulting in critical content efficacy and overall product durability.

Preservatives in eyecare formulations, such as benzalkonium chloride (BAC), may cause side effects with chronic use.

Microbiologically tested and FDA approved SteriDrop tube is said to amount to a pharma-grade solution to address the resulting challenge of eyecare product protection and durability.

SteriDrop tube is provided with a wide selection of caps and flow rates, enabling to customize as per the drop formulation.

The tubs also avoid the requirement for preservatives and additives such as silver ions or surface coating, and provides metal-free product pathway for dispensing.

The company will exhibit the new tube solution for eyedrops at this year’s CPhI Worldwide event in Madrid, Spain, which will take place from 9 to 11 October.

It will also be showcased at Pack Expo event in Chicago, which will be held from 14 to 17 October.

Hoffmann Neopac pharma sales and marketing head Martina Christiansen said: “Our new SteriDrop tubes offer an unprecedented combination of product protection and ease of use for eyedrop users.

“More and more consumers are opting for preservative-free eyecare solutions, making product protection a premium asset. At Pack Expo, we look forward to showcasing how this new solution yields product protection, user-friendliness and, ultimately, an improved consumer experience.”
