US-based pharmaceutical firm Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has committed to a $2bn investment to enhance its manufacturing capabilities in North Carolina.

The initiative will add a 160,000ft2 manufacturing facility at FUJIFILM’s Holly Springs site and create 120 jobs.

The investment aims to enhance the production of advanced medicines in the US to cater to the domestic patient demand.

Johnson & Johnson chairman and CEO Joaquin Duato said: “Johnson & Johnson has more manufacturing facilities in the U.S. than in any other country, and we continue to strengthen our presence here.

“With the recent signing of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, we continue to expand our investment in the US to lead the next era of healthcare innovation.”

Johnson & Johnson plans to build more advanced manufacturing facilities in the US, alongside expanding existing sites.

In March this year, the company revealed a $55bn investment to bolster US manufacturing, research, and technology over the next four years.

The Wilson, North Carolina, facility is under construction and is expected to employ over 500 people, with 5,000 construction jobs created during development.

The investment extends to research and development infrastructure, focusing on treatments in oncology, neuroscience, immunology, cardiovascular disease, and robotic surgery.

The Holly Springs facility is said to further complement the company’s manufacturing capabilities in the US, supporting thousands of jobs, said Johnson & Johnson.
