Marken - Delivering on patient centricity

Since 2000, clinical trials have increased 30-fold, while growing in complexity and duration, and expanding to more global sites than ever before. Simultaneously, patient knowledge continues to expand, allowing better self-advocacy. Marken, a leading supplier of patient-centric clinical trial logistics services, continues to be a pioneer in this space and provides supply chain solutions to the clinical trial industry.

As the only supply chain organisation solely focused on life sciences and clinical trials, Marken is uniquely positioned to understand the needs and wants of the trial participant.

Its direct-to-patient (DTP) home delivery service puts the patient first. DTP delivers trial material directly to the patient at their home from investigator sites, pharmacies or depots. The service also includes the home pick-up of unused, partially used or expired clinical trial materials, to be returned to a depot or a pharmacy, or to be returned to the manufacturer or destroyed.

In addition, DTP also includes the pick-up and delivery of biological samples from the patient and on to the lab, as well as in-home healthcare services for clinical trials.

Unique service

With a network of trained drivers, this service enables trial materials to be delivered to the patient's home or physician's office. Today, Marken completes 50,000 time and temperature-sensitive shipments to more than 150 countries around the world each month. Increasing drug sensitivity means that robust shipment monitoring is critical and mandatory.

As GDP regulations become stricter, shipment monitoring ensures that standards of compliance are met and that the safety and efficacy of the product is guaranteed throughout the logistics and supply chain.

As unique medications - especially those related to cell and gene therapy - evolve, Marken remains the leading industry expert on drug quality and complete end-to-end visibility throughout the supply chain. As innovative therapies and orphan drug development continues, Marken will continue to drive leading supply chain solutions across the clinical trial industry. More than 250 companies initiated cell therapy trials in 2016 alone, and orphan drugs have increased from 38 to over 400 since 1983. Drugs in both categories are likely to be more complex than traditional medications.

The pulse behind global trials

To better serve the supply chain, and support cell, gene and immunotherapies, Marken SENTRY provides real-time tracking to ensure every outbound advanced therapy medicinal product (ATMP) travels safely and meets the on-time specification needed. Custom software monitors and reports important data, including location, temperature, and shock with SENTRY-enabled Intelligent Cargo.

The vision of Marken's SENTRY, which uses sensor intelligence to measure GPS and LBS location, security, damage/shock and temperature, is to provide accurate data and be used in the maintenance of robust records.

Simply put, SENTRY removes the supply chain visibility gaps. With global coverage that includes a network of over 2,500 units in use currently and acceptance on more than 94 airlines, Marken controls the heartbeat of every shipment.

Marken is dedicated to the life sciences industry, with a GDP-compliant global network of 45 locations across the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Quality and customer service are its top priority.

World of expertise

As medication advancements and development efforts see further evolution, the industry's patient-centric approach will continue to grow and create an increasingly complex supply chain need.

The expertise of a global logistic partner such as Marken, with an array of capabilities and an expanding reach, will remain integral to successful outcomes for the clinical trial industry.
