DuPont has launched Kalrez® LS222, a perfluoroelastomer part for use in life science markets such as pharmaceutical production processes, high volume medical packaging and disposable devices. With its dynamic nature in terms of temperature and chemical resistance, DuPont™ Kalrez LS222 can be used in a wide range of devices including aerosol rings, infusion hangers, micro valves, needle covers, plungers and serum stoppers.

This exciting new development represents an expansion of the Kalrez® offering to meet the demand from OEMS and Life Science manufacturers who require large quantities of high quality parts. (i.e. applications requiring FDA and/or USP VI certifications)

Kalrez LS222 will enable manufacturers in these critical, high volume markets to reduce total operating cost thanks to its longer seal life and excellent chemical and temperature resistance. It will provide lower total sealing cost than other high temperature perfluoroelastomers allowing for more efficient, high quality and cost effective production.

The Kalrez LS222 commercial offering is for customers who require high volumes of specific parts. The standard offering is for more than 10,000 parts per order, with bulk packaging of 500 pieces per bag. The offering is best positioned for O-rings and custom parts with outer diameter up to 2in (50.8 mm). Other sizes and shapes can be addressed through developmental project in cooperation with the customer.

"Kalrez LS222 is a new offering which aims to help our customers in the medical packaging and disposable devices sector reduce cost while increasing efficiency," said Lakshmi Krishnamurthy, Kalrez Vespel® global segment leader for E&MH (Energy and Material Handling). "The dynamic and durable performance of Kalrez LS222 in terms of lifespan and chemical resistance can really enable our customers to be confident in the production process while keeping costs at a minimum, so vital in high volume markets."

DuPont Kalrez perfluoroelastomer parts last longer and seal more effectively than other elastomers in demanding processing environments. Kalrez parts (FFKM) resist over 1,800 different chemicals, while offering the high temperature stability of PTFE (327°C). The long-term, proven performance of Kalrez® parts can mean less frequent seal changes, repairs and inspections, increasing process and equipment uptime for greater productivity and yield. They are used across a wide array of sectors including Life Sciences, industrial, food and beverage and pharmaceuticals.
